Hyoscine N-butylbromide
Indications/Uses
Acute spasm, as in renal or biliary chronic, radiology for differential diagnosis of obstruction. Reduce spasm & pain in pyelography & other diagnostic procedures.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 20 mg IM/slow IV repeated after ½ hr if necessary. Max: 100 mg daily.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Not to be inj IM in patients receiving anticoagulants. Not to be given in patients w/ tachycardia. Narrow-angle glaucoma, prostatic hypertrophy w/ urinary retention, mechanical GI tract stenosis, paralytical or obstructive ileus, megacolon, myasthenia gravis.
Special Precautions
Anaphylactic shock. Cardiac failure or arrhythmia, CHD & CV disease eg, acute MI, HTN & conditions associated w/ tachycardia or HTN & in cardiac surgery; pyrexia; undiagnosed & untreated narrow-angle glaucoma. Persisting or worsening severe, unexplained abdominal pain w/ symptoms of fever, nausea, vomiting, changes in bowel movement, abdominal tenderness, decreased BP, fainting or blood in stool. May affect ability to drive & use machines. Not recommended during pregnancy & lactation. Not recommended in childn <12 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Accommodation disorders; tachycardia; dizziness; dry mouth, constipation.
Drug Interactions
Intensified anticholinergic effect of TCAs, tetracyclic antidepressants, antihistamines, quinidine, amantadine, antipsychotics eg, phenothiazines, butyrophenones, disopyramide, other anticholinergics eg, tiotropium, ipratropium, atropine-like compd. Enhanced tachycardiac effects of β-adrenergic agents. Diminuted effects on GI tract w/ dopamine antagonists eg, metoclopramide.
